The rain in Spain

... does not stay mainly in the plain. Actually, the rain in Spain stays mainly in the hills.

Today was a bit rainy but the weather forecast promised a possibility of a nice sunset. So I decided to carry a few kilos of camera gear up the Monte Naranco to a trail called Colmenas, shoot some riding video and finally take some stills of the sunset. As I was making the climb, I kept glancing at the sky above the snow capped mountains in the west. It was cloudy, but patches of almost blue here and there promised beautiful red clouds later.

Right when I reached the start of Colmenas it started to drizzle a bit. The sky in the west was still looking good, so I decided to take cover under a tree and wait it out. The drizzle became proper rain and then faded to a drizzle again. After maybe a half an hour the rain stopped but the sky was heavily clouded. No red sunset tonight.

I started riding down the trail still thinking about taking some video. I stopped to a nice spot and glanced at the sky – drizzling again. As I kept going the rain got heavier. Trail conditions on Colmenas are good even when wet but the weighty and fragile cargo forced me to take it a lot slower and more carefully than normally. And guess what I found out? The Colmenas is a pretty awesome trail when ridden slow and easy! Maybe I should try riding easy on some other trails too. At least on rainy days.

So a nice ride after all. No pictures or video to show for it but you can rest your eyes on this photo from our visit to Ribadesella last November. No snow capped mountains or mountain bikes but a nice red sky anyway :)
